The kids

While a lot of our attention has been on Makenna's growth, we've forgotten how quickly Isaiah is developing as well. Its fun to compare where Isaiah is now to where Makenna was back when she was a year old. Back then, she was a lot more chatty than he is now, but he's picked up on more words than she did, probably because he hears her saying them and then he attempts to say it too. Regardless of what we're teaching Makenna, Isaiah is right behind her playing catch-up, though she's at the point of understanding what were asking of her while he's just imitating. Either way, they're both making great progress in their overall development!

Isaiah continues being overly inquisitive, and has found great interest in the dog. Whenever Marino enters the room, Isaiah lets out a big "oooohhhhhhh" and follows him all over the place. He likes when Marino licks his hands, and enjoys playing with Marino's teeth. Marino is very careful and will just lay there while Isaiah has his way with him. We've been fortunate that Marino has taken well to both babies, even though a lot of people still can't believe we have such a "beast" around the kids =)

Makenna is turning into a real peach, and her attitude has really started to surface. She's become so independent and strong-willed, and will shout "me do it" when she doesn't want any help in doing something. She will ask for help though if she gets in a bind, but that's usually after getting extremely frustrated! HA, sounds a bit like me =) At this point, we're allowing her to express her independence, to a certain degree of course (give an inch, they take a mile)! She's still too young to do much on her own, but recently, when putting her in her car seat, she started with the "I wanna drive" chant. What the? Drive?? Already?? Oh boy, do we have a big task ahead of us with this one!

Good Mood

CONGRATULATIONS to our friends the Nguyen Family on the arrival of the newest addition to their family: Kaitlynn Nguyen! Kaitlynn was born on March 26, 2009 at 4:43 pm, weighed in at 7 pounds 10 ounces, and was 20 inches long. We wish nothing but happiness & great times ahead for the Nguyen family!


Life is always better when our two little ones are in good moods, and while they both have their occasional meltdowns, they've gotten better at just being happy =) As Isaiah continues to cut new teeth, his mood swings are more frequent, but for the most part he's been a happy camper. So when he's in a good mood and Makenna's in a good mood, it makes for fun times between the two of them. They play better together, and they "talk" more to one another; basically they just get along well and that makes for a great overall mood at home! When the mood is good, it brings the stress level way down, making family time fun time! Couple that with this great weather we're having, it just make life seem more manageable. Ahhhhhhh! Developing personalities

So it seems that our two little munchkins are becoming quite the formidable tag team these days. And while they're both making great strides in their development, their bond with one another is much like that of any other brother and sister pair we've seen. They have their good days, and their not-so-good days, some more than others, but at days end, they both give each other a goodnight hug and kiss. I wonder how long that'll last before they start ripping each other's hair out!

Now that Enza's birthday has come and gone, we're done with the "Camero birthday rush" which tends to keep the momentum of the holidays and our anniversary going. Ahh, a lull in the festivities is all we need, because it seems like we've been going non-stop since Halloween! For now, we can enjoy the silence, how ever long that lasts! With all the recent birthdays came Isaiah's new word: birthday! He actually said it right before we woke Mommy up on her birthday. That being said, Makenna's favorite song at the moment is Happy Birthday, and she sings it to anyone and everyone regardless of their date of birth!

Isaiah has sprouted a couple more teeth, and has been one big ball of drool as of late. He can't keep his shirts dry for more than a few hours and we're finding that his laundry is neverending! His little jealousy streak is slowly developing, and he doesn't like to share our attention, especially with his sister. If he's sitting with one of us and Makenna wants to join us, he will immediately push her away and start crying. I'm pretty sure he learned that from her, but we're slowly working on the whole idea of "sharing."

Makenna's attitude is showing up more, and was the most evident the other day when I called her over to clean up her toys. Her response? "I'm doing something!" and she said it with such attitude it left Enza and I speechless! Sure, it was funny, but then we started to look at the big picture and had visions of her future rebellious years. We need to nip that in the bud before the attitude becomes overly dominant. And so it all begins...

We thought Makenna's terrible two's started early, but seems like that stage may be in full swing now that little Miss Independent has a big voice! Sure all her words were cute and funny when she first started saying them, but since she's figured out how to put them together to form sentences, she's literally been telling us what she wants and doesn't want. At first we praised her for her ability to use the right words at the right times, and that's a great accomplishment for a two-year old. But when that word is the dreaded "no," it gets a little old. She acts as if she has a say in the matter, regardless of what it is. For example, Makenna will say "no" when we tell her it's time for her nap. Or she'll say "no, I don't want to eat" when it's time for dinner. These are just a few examples of her thinking she has a choice! It gets to the point where every other word is "no" and sometimes she'll even confuse herself by saying it when she wants something! HA! She knows that word will get us going (God knows what we used to go through if we said "no" to our parents) and she just keeps on saying it to push our buttons. When we don't give in, she'll break down and cry, and sometimes throw herself on the ground. She's also developed this weird, whiny, roaring sound that makes us look at each other and ask, "where did she learn that from?" Oh well, we keep telling ourselves that it's just a phase that kids go through, and with that, we're preparing for when Isaiah goes through it, if he hasn't begun already! Right now he starts up when he sees that Makenna is having a fit, and he's already Mr. Sensitive.... Oh the humanity!!! Happy Friday!

That's entertainment!

The kids have always been a great source of entertainment, but more so lately, as their personalities continue to develop on a grand scale. Those who have been around can see it in a couple of things. With Isaiah, he's become less of the "fuss-bucket" he used to be and has become more inquisitive of everything around him. You can see it in his eyes when he spots something new and interesting, and he'll usually say, "ooooh, what's that?" He's also a lot quicker on his feet now, and he's gaining a better understanding of what we tell him. His newest thing is that he wants to walk to his room on his own when he has a dirty diaper. If we tell him we have to change it, he'll immediately make a beeline for his room! Who taught him that???

With Makenna, it's almost as if she's on overdrive, especially with her speech! She's at that stage now where "me do it" and "I did it" are pretty common. Our little Miss Independent loves to do things on her own, but will always ask for help if she runs into a snag. It's funny to hear her ask "daddy help you" when she needs assistance because she's basically repeating what I say to her when I notice she's stuck. Out of the blue, she'll sing entire songs (nursery rhymes) while Enz & I look at each other in amazement! Just last night, she called both Enz & I by name! HA, too funny!

They're both at great stages in their young lives and it's so fun to watch how they feed off one another's energy. Sure there are still times when Kenna overdoes it and gets Isaiah all riled up, but it seems that he's learning to get over it quicker. That is, unless she continues to push his buttons...

TGIF!

TGIF! So now that the weather's gotten a lot more favorable, we've been able to take the kids outside without the fear of getting wet, WHEW! Not quite sure how long the great weather will last, but we've been taking advantage thus far and the kids love to be outside! Isaiah got a wagon for his birthday last month, but we haven't been able to use it due to all of the rain. Both kids have been able to enjoy it since it's been warm, and they both love being pulled around in it. I guess it gives them a little more freedom as opposed to being stuck in a stroller! Makenna's 2nd Birthday

Still can't believe the little one is two-years old, and to this day we still find it hard to believe how blessed we were that she was born on my birthday. What are the odds? For this birthday, we decided to have Kenna's party at the Little Gym, and let her and her "posse" blow off some steam! It worked out perfect as the kids were allowed to do their own thing, mixed in with some fun instructor time. Now that Isaiah's been walking for a solid month, he was able to get down and run around with all the bigger kids too! The time went by so quickly though, and by the time all the kids sat down for cake and ice cream, they all looked exhausted! Makenna had such a great time on her birthday, so much so that I think it pretty much erased her memories of the "jumpy house" for Isaiah's birthday! Thanks to everyone who made it out to celebrate this milestone with Makenna =)

Fun with the kids!

Yet another relaxing weekend at home, with not much planned but to lounge around and do nothing! We were anticipating the next "big storm," but apparently it turned out to be just a teaser as it didn't really rain much. The kids were on their best behavior for the most part, though Isaiah decided to rebel this weekend and took it upon himself to skip out on his afternoon nap on both days. He's got another tooth starting to make it's way out, and he's been drooling more than the dog! Makenna continues to "wow" us with her ever-growing vocabulary, and the use of her new words is pretty much spot on! We often find ourselves wondering, "how does she know when to use that?" So now it's a matter of keeping a watchful ear on what we say around the house because it seems that Kenna's radar is up and running, and she seems to have selective hearing as to what she picks out to repeat! As cute as it is to hear her repeat certain things, it's probably not appropriate to hear her drop an f-bomb when talking to grandma!

What can I say? Everyone knows how silly our kids are, and the laughs just keep coming! Isaiah's been doing his own thing as of late, walking around the house saying "what's that" to everything he sees, or practicing saying his name. It's fun to watch him attempt to run since he's just mastered walking recently, but he's trying. His favorite shows don't seem to hold his interest much, as he's more content with his ability to walk and get into stuff! We thought he'd be Makenna's little shadow, following her wherever she would go, but that's not the case. In fact, she seems to always follow him around! Maybe it's because he can get into stuff we previously told her not to, and since it's his "first offense," she can't get in trouble either? We can't call it! There are times when they're able to play together peacefully, but most of the time, Zae likes to do his own thing. As long as they're not fighting, life is good!

Makenna is in her "repeat what I hear" phase, so you know Enz & I have to bite our tongues every now and then! Makenna has already dropped a couple of undesired four letter words, so we really need to be mindful of what we say. The good part of her new phase is that she's learning a lot, and learning it fast! She can finally say her own name, when previously she had trouble putting the three syllables together. We would practice with her, "Ma-ke-na," and she was able to say each part individually without any problems. But when we tried to get her to put them together, she just couldn't do it, so she would just say "Kenna." Watching Makenna, we can almost see her brain at work, so to speak. We can see what piques her curiosity, what she's interested in and what she doesn't care for. She's at the stage where she's able to communicate more, of course with the occasional tantrum thrown in for good measure! Aside from that, it's hard to believe that she's a week shy of hitting the two-year mark! I can say it until I'm blue in the face, but seriously, where did the time go???

Relaxing weekend

Not much planned this past weekend, just enough to keep us busy and the kids occupied. We've noticed that the kids tend to act up a bit more when we don't have anything planned, especially the days when we need to stay in to clean house. The weather hasn't allowed us to do much of anything with the kids outdoors, then again, it's still winter! So any chance to get out of the house, whether it be for a quick trip to the mall, a visit to the grandparents, or even a birthday party, the kids are satisfied! That was pretty much our weekend - a visit to Nonno & Nonna's, a birthday lunch with family, and a trip to the mall. Nothing too exciting, but to the kids, each event was a much needed change in scenery! I guess if we just stayed home the entire weekend, it would've given the two more chance to get into trouble! Nevertheless, they had a great time visiting with family =)

Hump Day

So now that Isaiah's found his groove, he's got a totally different attitude. It's almost as if he knows the freedom and independence that walking provides. As I've mentioned before, he's getting into a lot more stuff around the house now that he's able to take off on his own. But that doesn't last too long because Makenna is quick to put her little brother in check with a loud "no Zae Zae!" That usually sets him off and he'll start crying until he gets his way! Sound familiar? I think he picked up that little trick from his big sister =) We're hoping that it's just a phase they go through, otherwise we'll have to lay the smack down (figuratively, of course)! Isaiah has also found Marino interesting once again, especially since he's now at eye level with the dog! Marino still makes attempts to lick Isaiah's face, but Isaiah can push him away with both hands now rather than trying his best to crawl away. The little man also figured out that Marino loves to eat, and at times, we've caught him purposely dropping his food for the dog! I'm guessing that's another little gem he learned from big sis!

Makenna has been non-stop chatterbox lately, and it's not due to an increase in sugar. She seems genuinely excited about turning two in a couple of weeks, and already knows what kind of party she's having. If you ask her, she gets this look of sheer excitement on her face! Lately she's had nothing but love for everyone, and gives random kisses out, but doesn't stop there. Now she's making requests with her new line "hug too?" How can anyone resist when little ones ask for affection? Too cute! Kenna is also in her "me do it" phase, and likes to show us that she's capable of doing something once she sets her mind to it. Then when she gets into a bind it's all about "daddy help you" or "mommy help you." Of course we know she's asking "daddy or mommy help me," but since she hears us ask "daddy or mommy help YOU" she thinks you refers to her. Even when we show her pictures of herself and ask her who she is, she'll respond with "you!" Too funny how children's minds work!

TGIF!

After a long and full week, we're ready for the weekend! While our last weekend was full of children's birthday parties, this weekend we plan to relax and just enjoy ourselves. Plus, it's a long weekend to boot! Who could ask for anything more?!

Well things have definitely changed since Isaiah started walking. He's been on the prowl for new stuff to get into, stuff he wasn't able to see while crawling. And while Makenna hasn't gotten into too much trouble, she's finding it easier to do so now that she's got her tag team partner up on two feet. If there's something to be found, you can believe that the two of them will find it. And when they do find something new, it gets really quiet, so we know something's up! That's not to say that they're mischievous, but more like we need to keep on our toes to make sure they're both safe and sound. I've both looked forward to, and dreaded the day that these two would literally be running around the house. Now let's see if our fitness is up to par with that of our two little energizer bunnies! Oh what a feeling...

For about the last month or so, we've been keeping a watchful eye on Isaiah and his desire to be independently mobile. He pulled himself up, stood up on his own, and began cruising along the furniture long before Makenna did, so we figured he would start walking early too. Makenna started fully walking on her own a few days before her first birthday, in fact, it was on her original due date of March 4, go figure! Isaiah, on the other hand, would make random attempts every now and then, and would get about four or five steps before giving up and sitting down. When we'd encourage him to continue, it was like the pressure was too much to handle and he wouldn't try anymore. We decided that he wasn't 100% ready and left him to do it on his own. It didn't take long because the day after his birthday, he took off and has been unstoppable ever since!

I happened to be working from home that day and was taking Makenna to the bathroom. Isaiah was standing up, holding onto a chair in the kitchen when I said "c'mon Zae, let's go change Makenna." As Kenna & I walked away, Isaiah immediately let go of the chair and followed us through the kitchen before falling on his butt near the hallway! I was so excited for him that I forgot Makenna had to go to the bathroom. Isaiah was all smiles and it look like he knew that he finally did it! Makenna even clapped her hands for him, probably because she saw how happy I got! Hehehehe! After that instance, he was on the go all over the place, so I just let him explore. I figured that even though he's pretty much got the run of the house already, things may look different while up on his feet as opposed to crawling. Plus, it gave him a chance to try and keep up with his big sister! He's been walking since last Friday, and will resort to crawling only when he's tired (or if he's having a tantrum and wants someone to pick him up). Yesterday, when I came home from work, Isaiah walked to the door on his own to greet me for the first time! He usually crawls to me, so seeing him turn the corner and happily walk over when he saw it was me made me feel so proud! Of course I felt the same way when Makenna greeted me like that for the first time, but wow, that was so long ago! What a great feeling! It's little things like this that make being a parent so fulfilling =)

Perfect weekend for Zae's party

After the weather took a turn for the worst toward the end of the week, we were fortunate enough to see the sun & experience a warm and dry day for Isaiah's birthday party! WHEW! The best part was that we were able to keep the bouncy house, the one we were about to cancel due to the weather. It was a game-time decision, and one that I'm so glad we went with. While I was the pessimist, Enz had nothing but faith, and thank God one of us did. That being said, it was a terrific day to celebrate Isaiah's first birthday! We had a great turnout with everyone filling the house and the back yard. I don't know what we would've done without the jumper or if it was raining. All of the kids would've been bouncing off the walls and the house would've been chaotic! But since things went our way, we were able to rest easy and enjoy another fun party with friends and family!

HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY ISAIAH!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISAIAH! I've been saying it for some time now, and to this day, I'm still saying it, "where has the time gone?" It really does seem like yesterday when we went to the hospital, but a whole year?! It's been a fun and interesting first year with our little man, and we can't wait to see how he continues to develop. Over the last couple of weeks we've seen a lot from the little guy, and it's hard to believe that he's the same baby who was stuck in a billibed for a week to help with his jaundice! Though his big sister was already independently walking by her first birthday, Isaiah has decided to take a more relaxed approach, and will only take steps on his own when he feels like it! HA! So much for him walking early! It's all good, he's done a lot of other things before Makenna did within the same time frame. Besides it's unfair to compare their development, especially since they're both completely different individuals. Nevertheless, our little man has kept us highly entertained over this last year, and again, we can't wait to see just how much he grows in the near future. Happy Birthday Zae Zae, we love you!

Pleasant weekend...

What a great weekend we had, perfect weather and cooperative children; what more could we have asked for?! While the intent of this weekend was getting the house ready for Isaiah's 1st birthday party, we were able to get our work done and have a little "r & r" time with family and friends. The kids were able to get out of the house and do their thing, and we were able to just chill while the kids "blew off some steam!" All in all, it was a great weekend! And it didn't hurt that we won a couple of times on this year's Super Bowl pool too =)

We really don't know what it is, but the kids must know something because they both enjoy wearing Makenna's pull-ups on their heads! What started off as something to keep Makenna entertained while potty training, turned out to be a big fashion statement in her eyes. For Isaiah, he's just following the antics of his silly big sister! So in a sense it's true, we are raising a couple of clowns =) Gotta love these kids!!!

As we near the end of the first month of 2009, we can't help but be a bit perplexed on how quickly time is passing. Not really so much on this new year, but that our little big man will be a year old in about a week and a half! Not only that, but Makenna will be reaching another milestone and will be turning two in about 6 weeks! It almost makes me feel old when I use the cliché "they grow up so fast." Nevertheless, they'll still be our little babies no matter how quickly they grow, how mature they seem, or how big they get!

This past weekend, we went out dancing with "Uncle Ricky" and "Auntie Gina" in celebration of both of their birthdays. Auntie Emily & Auntie Yelena watched the little munchkins while we were out. Kenna has always been the easy one when it comes to babysitting, and this time was no exception. Since the evening started a little later, we were able to put Isaiah down before we left. We figured he'd be down for the count by the time the night got started, leaving the two with Makenna. Something happened with little Zae man later that night, and he wasn't having a good time at all. When we checked in after midnight, Emily told us that Zae wouldn't go back to sleep and that he was having a hard time soothing himself. We were almost ready to call it a night, but Emily assured us that they could handle it. We stayed out for a couple more hours or so, and when we got home, Isaiah was asleep in Yelena's arms, wrapped up like a big baby =) They finally got him to relax and fall asleep, but they didn't want to put him down for fear he'd wake up again. So they just held onto him, and he looked SOOOO peaceful! Good lookin' out guys, you did a great job! He woke up Saturday morning, a little later than his usual 5:30am, and he was in a terrific mood - go figure! The rest of the weekend was cake, and even though he's still battling a runny nose & congestion, he was in great spirits!

As always, our two little ones continue to keep us on our toes. Isaiah loves to roam around the house on his own, and Makenna will usually follow him and tell him "no no Zae" when he's not supposed to do something. That is, unless it's also something that she wants to do and she's not supposed to, then we don't hear a thing, and that's when we have to go and find what they've gotten into! Ahhh, the joys of parenthood! Can't complain though, mainly because nobody will listen =)

Makenna's been a great big sister, and Isaiah has really taken to her as of late. It seems like she's the only one who can get him to laugh the way he does, but on the same note, she's the one who can really get him annoyed! Sibling love or sibling rivalry-whatever it is, they've got it. Lately, all Makenna has to do to get the little man to laugh is to put one of her pull-ups on her head like a beanie, and he'll just have a field day cracking up! Makenna enjoys making Isaiah laugh, but again, she doesn't know when enough is enough and will get him to the point where she pisses him off! It's so fun to watch, at least until Isaiah gets mad!

Happy Tuesday!

Back to the grind on this sunny Tuesday morning, and it's hard to believe that it's supposed to rain for the remainder of the week! We've had such a nice run of great weather, we almost forgot that we're still in the heart of winter. We took advantage of the sunny weather along with our extra day off, and took the kids to the park for a little "fun time!" Normally we take the double stroller with us, and Isaiah gets stuck in the back seat, so half of his view is of the back of Makenna's head. This time, we brought the single stroller for the little man, and he felt like a king in it! He had a BLAST being in it by himself with the wind in his face. We didn't get but 10 feet and he was already shrieking with delight! Kinda hard to believe since all we were doing was pushing him in the stroller. What a funny little man we have! Makenna had the liberty of being out on her own, without the confines of the stroller. She ran freely on the grass, and had a great time on the jungle gym - all by herself! It's fun to watch Kenna play, because she does so in such a manner that she has absolutely no care in the world. Ahhh, what I wouldn't give to be so care-free again!

Isaiah's been a bit on the picky side with his eating again, and for us that could only mean one thing - he's teething again. We're not quite sure which teeth are coming in, but we've been finding him with his hands in his mouth when he's not eating. When he does decide to eat, he's really temperamental and only wants to feed himself. He does enjoy when Makenna feeds him, almost like they're bonding, but he gets tired of that too. Makenna, on the other hand, doesn't know when to stop feeding him, and will almost force the spoon in his mouth! Aside from his teething woes, he's still not grasping the whole walking thing. We've caught him on occasion, standing up by himself, but he just can't seem to figure out how to get started! If we help him out, he'll take a few steps on his own, but then he gets frustrated and immediately gets back down to crawling. So now he's up to about 4-5 steps unassisted. We're not trying to rush him into walking, but we know he has it in him, and we can see that he wants to follow Kenna everywhere!

This weekend we introduced Makenna to her "big girl bed." She was SO excited at first, and was going around saying "bed" all day! We figured she was ready for it because she was starting to look a little cramped in her crib. After we set it up, the excitement was still there as she crawled and jumped around on the mattress. When it came time to put her down for the night, she sang a different tune. It was almost as if her security blanket had been taken from her. Gone were the four secure walls of her humble abode, and in it's place was this foreign, full-size, big girl bed. It was like everything she had grown to understand had been taken from her! Poor thing! Enz did her best to calm her down, but even after reading her a bedtime story, she wasn't convinced, and she called out for me. After reading to her from one of her favorite books (Ramona the Pest), I was able to talk to her and tell her how lucky she was to be in a big girl bed. I don't know what it was that I said to her, but she was sold! It could be that she finally got tired or just wanted me to be quiet already, but whatever it was, it made her so happy to be in that bed!
